Adoption of Pakistani Earthquake Orphans Banned
Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz announced on October 16 that the government of Pakistan is imposing a ban on the adoption
of Pakistani children orphaned by the October 8 earthquake. The Prime Minister stated that the government is working to search
for guardians for the orphaned children, and will ensure the upbringing of those children for whom a guardian cannot be found.
Americans who wish to contribute financially or in other ways to ongoing relief efforts in response to the earthquake as a
way of assisting the children of the countries affected may obtain further information at www.usaid.gov or from the Center for Disaster Information (CIDI) at 703-276-1914 www.cidi.org.
