Samoa Adoption Notice
Recently, a number of concerns about the international adoption process in Samoa have been brought to the attention of the
U.S. government. U.S. citizens contemplating adoption in Samoa are strongly advised to exercise caution before proceeding
with proposed adoptions. The U.S. Consulate General in Auckland examines each case to determine whether completed adoptions
meet the requirements of U.S. immigration law. As part of this review process, a consular officer interviews birth parents
of children being placed for adoption. The officer conducting these interviews and other investigative functions travels
to Samoa from New Zealand for this purpose and can only do so periodically. Delays in completing adoption cases may result.
