Text Box: David J. Johnson is the recently appointed Unit Chief of the Crimes Against Children Unit of the FBI's Criminal Investigative Division.  He was assigned to the Unit in November of 2003.  

Mr. Johnson has been employed with the FBI since 1991.  Until his transfer to FBI Headquarters, he was assigned to the San Francisco Division, San Jose Resident Agency.  His first assignment was to a Violent Crime Squad where he investigated bank robberies, fugitive matters, interstate theft, and kidnappings.  In 1994 he was assigned to the High Technology Squad where he worked economic espionage and foreign counterintelligence matters.  He was subsequently assigned to investigate Mexican drug trafficking organizations in 1997.  And in 1999, he was promoted to the position of Supervisory Special Agent to manage the Organized Crime Squad.  

The mission of the Crimes Against Children Unit (CACU) is to Text Box: develop a nationwide capacity to provide a rapid and effective investigative response to reported federal crimes involving the victimization of children; reduce the vulnerability of children to acts of sexual exploitation and abuse; reduce the negative impacts of domestic/international parental rights disputes; and strengthen the capabilities of federal, state and local law enforcement through training Text Box: programs and investigative assistance.
One of the priorities for Mr. Johnson is to make International Parental Kidnapping investigations a priority at FBI Headquarters, the 56 field offices throughout the country as well as the various Legal Attaché Offices located the world over.  Mr. Johnson believes a primary way to accomplish this goal is to develop a better working relationship with the Department of State, Office of Children's Issues as well as the left-behind parents.  To facilitate this, Mr. Johnson participated in the San Francisco Town Hall Meeting on November 3, 2003.  He was extremely impressed with the Department of State personnel who coordinated the meeting as well as the parents'  motivation and determination to have their children returned.   Mr. Johnson also directs his personnel within the CACU to attend monthly meetings at the Department of State.
